 Still on that puppetry project , I tried to make faster drawings. These are acrylic. I enjoyed making them because the lines are so thick- so I could make patterns easily and fast. This is a story- the puppeteer cutting a branch from a tree, that branch becoming the puppet- another living thing, and how it tells these powerful stories when its awake. The bottom drawing shows the story of the people from the audience. I'd just read "Petals of blood" by Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, where there is a scene like this, an old woman tells the villagers about their past, how the forest was cut down by the colonisers and the people killed.
